London Life, Lagos Living stage play is set to entertain audience this October

More stage plays to look out for this October!

The Make it Happen Productions company in Nigeria is set to entertain her audience with another extravaganza as it presents the stage adaptation of Bobo Omotayo’s “London Life, Lagos Living“, a stage play that captures the experiences of a Nigerian who lived in London and moves back home.


The much anticipated play features a cast of A-list actors which includes Kate Henshaw, Funke Akindele, OC Ukeje, Chioma ‘Chigurl’ Omeruah,Kemi Lala Akindoju, Lami Phillips, Patrick Diabuah, Adebola Williams and more.

Call for Entries: Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards 2016

Africa Magic, the continent’s leading provider of entertainment for Africa by Africans, in association with MultiChoice has announced the call to entry for the 2016 edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs).

Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu, Regional Director for M-Net (West), said: “We are pleased to announce the call to entry for the 2016 edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards. At Africa Magic and MultiChoice, we have continued to show our support to the film and television industry across Africa even as we continue to provide world class entertainment for Africa by Africans. For the 4th edition of the AMVCAs, we are inviting all entries for film and television works that are produced and broadcast or publicly exhibited from October 1st 2014 to September 30th 2015.”

The AMVCAs were created to celebrate the contribution of African filmmakers, actors and technicians in the success of the continent’s film and television industry and with the success of the previous three editions, preparations for the 2016 edition are underway.

Magic of the Musical to thrill Lagosians for independence Celebration

For Broadway lovers like myself, you will be pleased to know that the Magic of the Musical crew are set to thrill Lagosians for the independence celebration as Notes Inc. Media brings the magic of the stage to the city of Lagos.

Magic of the Musical is a Broadway production with compilations of the most popular musical songs from well-known musical Broadway plays of all time.

The show is set to feature some of Nigeria's finest celebrities performing popular Broadway classics such as The Lion King, The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins.

The 2016 Commonwealth Short Story Prize now open for entry

 ...as the overall winner for 2015 is to be announced on 8 September


The Commonwealth Short Story Prize is an annual writing prize awarded for the best piece of unpublished short fiction of two thousand to five thousand words and is open to eligible writers in Commonwealth countries. 

The short prize brings stories from new and emerging voices, from countries with low publishing infrastructure, to the attention of an international audience.

Each year, five winning writers from five different Commonwealth regions are selected and awarded £2,500 (US$3,835) for their work and the overall winner receive £5,000 (US$7,670) for the winning story.

Glo unveils Literature Prize for Nigerian undergraduates

Last Friday, National Telecommunications Operator, Globacom, announced the launch of an annual literary writing competition called “Glo Literature Prize for Undergraduate Students”.

Globacom explained that the award was meant to promote the study of literary studies among youths, and engender creativity and keen competition in the subject in tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

Ebenezer Kolawole, Gloworld Coordinator, who announced the Prize on behalf of the Board and Management of the company, said it would be an annual competition open to all students of Nigerian universities, both public and private. The first edition of the award, is said to be held in 2016, and entries would be accepted for unpublished manuscripts which should be original scripts.

“Our objective is to promote the study of all genres of literature. Therefore, Globacom is offering prizes to winners in the following categories: Prose, Drama and Poetry. The winner in each category will receive the sum of N1.5m (one million, five hundred thousand naira).”
