Our favorite feminist, Chimamanda Adichie’s work is once more recognized and referred to by the writers and producers of the hit animation series, the Simpsons.
In a new episode of the Simpsons titled ‘The Princess Guide’, Chimamanda Adichie’s novel, ‘The Thing Around Your Neck’ makes a cameo appearance. The Thing Around Your Neck is a short story collection by Chimamanda, first published in April 2009 by Fourth Estate in the UK.
The collection makes its appearance in the 15th episode of the 26th season of The Simpsons. The episode features a Nigerian princess named Kemi, who comes to Springfield, as her father intends to work a uranium deal with Mr. Burns, and Homer is chosen to protect her. Moe, having recently lost his money to a Nigerian prince, believes Kemi must be related to the scammer, but soon starts falling for her.
The Simpsons, “The Princess Guide,” aired on Sunday, March 1.
