50 Shades of Grey movie banned by Nigerian Censor Board

FIFTY SHADES OF GREY BOOKThe much anticipated romantic drama, Fifty Shades of Grey adapted from the novel by British novelist Erika Leonard premiered in London on Valentine's weekend of 2015.

The movie which was set to air across Nigeria cinema's is now said to be banned by the Nigerian Censor Board following the protest by Campaigners against domestic violence at the UK premiere last week.

The general reaction by critics is that the movie promotes sexual violence and glorified rape.

The plot of Fifty Shades of Grey is centred on a male character who controls and dominants his relationship with his female protagonist, which critics say glamorises violence towards women.

The question is, if the controlling and dominant character in the movie was a woman, will it still be considered a sexually violent movie?

See below photos in protest of the movie.

  1. Hi Marian. Interesting article... Was actually a little bit curious about this book/film but not so sure now. Really important to guard what we feed our minds with.

  2. Your right Anthonia, they should probably have left it as a book.
